Fat to Thin By Shear F#$%!^& Determination
After taking to a couple people I think it’s necessary to clarify a few things about my blog. I’m not against supplements, name brand weight loss systems, super foods, and other weight loss information or ideas. I’m just trying to make a point.
Without determination to make life long changes all things are temporary. Including … maybe even especially weight loss.
If you are not willing to make “Permanent” changes in the way you live, eat, and think your successes in life, they are most likely going to be temporary.
Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.
A guy spoke to me today and in a very excited voice said “I found this new diet I’m trying”, before he could finish I asked “wait, have you been on other diets in the past?” He said “yes”. Then I asked “how did those work out for you?” His response was “I couldn’t stick to them or the weight just came back but this one could be the one.“ I then asked, is this a diet that he could see spending the rest of his life on? No way he says. It’s just to get this weight off.
My advice to him and advice that I’m trying to stick to myself was… You need to re-evaluate your definition of a diet. The definition you have in your head relates diet to temporary. Do a little research and you’ll see that most standard dictionary definitions of the word diet don’t contain the word temporary. As a matter of fact pick the one you like the most and put the word “permanent” in it somewhere.
A prescribed selection of foods
Becomes
A permanent prescribed selection of foods.
Now, doing this alone means nothing. The next step is selecting a set of foods that you like, that help you achieve your goals, and that you can stick to forever. After this comes the hardest part of all. Pick foods that give you no particular food value that you consume and commit to give them up. I gave up soda years ago… I gave up all wheat products a few weeks ago. (Both for health reasons, which I’ll explain in a later post.).
Now, this doesn’t mean that you must eat the same thing day after day. Few people truly have the will power to do that. Just like what you eat now… every so often your normal diet just seems old and you crave something new. That’s ok .. just don’t go get a burger or pizza. Take the time to sit down and plan out a new selection of foods that will help you maintain or achieve goals.
The point of this post, my efforts, and this blog is that, the way to a healthier, happier you is through permanent changes in your life. I’m choosing gradual changes be cause it works for me… if you’re a cold turkey kind of person, by all means make sudden changes.
Just change for the better…
BTW… you’ll be amazed that after a while you can’t even stand some of the things you gave up. If I accidently get a sip of soda (say I grab my wifes drink instead of mine)… It taste really bad to me.. I don’t like soda.. Thats saying something when it comes from someone who use to dring a 2 liter during a 4 hour college class and run to the car to grab another 2 liter if I ran out.
